Judith R. Mendel concentrates her practice in estate planning, estate taxation planning, long-term care and disability planning and estate administration. Judy is the editor and co-author of Drafting Estate Plans, published in 2004, and updated most recently in 2017, by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE). Judy's publications also include co-authorship of Estate and Gift Tax Planning: The Basics, published by the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA); and Estate Planning Basics, published by MCLE.

Judy has lectured frequently before other attorneys as a faculty member for MCLE and the MBA. She is a 1984 graduate of McGill Law School in Montreal where she lived before moving to Massachusetts, has her Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in taxation from the Boston University School of Law, and has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1988.

Elizabeth C. Volney joined Mendel & Associates in 2012 and focuses her practice in estate planning, estate taxation planning, long-term care and disability planning and estate administration. Liz graduated from Boston College in 2006 with a B.A. in Communication and from Northeastern University School of Law in 2011.

Liz was involved in editing the 2012 edition of Drafting Estate Plans, published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE), which incorporated overhauls to Massachusetts Trusts and Estates law ushered in by two new statutes, the Massachusetts Uniform Probate Code (MUPC) and the Massachusetts Uniform Trust Code. Liz has also lectured on basic estate planning for MCLE and on changes to drafting estate plan documents under the MUPC for the Greater Lynn Bar Association.

Prior to joining Mendel & Associates, Liz interned with the estate planning and administration department of Lawson & Weitzen, LLP, the ACLU of Massachusetts, and the Honorable Judge George A. O'Toole of the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts.

Liz is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Boston Bar Association and the Boston Trusts and Estates Consortium.


Francis M. Mulé  fmule@mendel-law.com

Francis M. Mulé joined Mendel & Associates in 2014 and concentrates his practice in estate planning, estate taxation planning, long-term care and disability planning, and estate administration. Frank graduated with highest honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2010 with a B.S. in Public Policy and from Northeastern University School of Law in 2013.

In law school, Frank served as an Articles Editor for the Northeastern University Law Journal and as a teaching assistant for the first-year Criminal Law course. Prior to joining Mendel & Associates, Frank interned with Kopelman and Paige, P.C., the City of Boston, the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General, and the Honorable Judge Harry M. Grossman of the Massachusetts Land Court.

Frank is admitted to practice law in both Massachusetts and New York and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association.
